I had a bit of an advantage in coming in to the German culture being that my mother, grandfather and sister-in-law are German. I was very surprised by how much of my personality is based on German society but i never knew because i was raised in it. Some things are still strange to me. The personal guilt that Germans feel about WWII has not been in my family, possibly being b/c my family fought against the Nazi. Or possibly b/c thats the American in me. i would like to, instead of studying in German, find my family that i have never seen in Germany. I believe that my family would be excited to know my efforts to learn about my heritage. its nice when i see my sister-in-laws family that they do take us in as family. i like that part of german society. i believe family is very important. Germany seems to have pluses and minus' but so does america. to learn what you like the most you must learn of the things you would not like.
